Kazuko Muge

It's tradition to go shopping outdoors the first weekend of March. (This is an event in honor of the Saint Kazukas' birthday.) The vendors line up along the streets and no cars drive through. As the weekend goes on, more and more people come to look for hand-made items.

Here is the Kazuko Newspaper stand to announce what is happening. It is always a fun event that we look forward to.

Kandra and Bette Sue had fun shoppping and eating our sausages out in the cold weather! (As you can see, we are dressed warmly. It was not a very cold day this year. Some years it is snowing and there are frozen streets to walk on.)

The booths line the main streets in the Old Town area.

There are special items at each booth.

PAKILK - Women's Ministry

Pakilk sponsored "Inspiration Day" for women from the Pentecostal Union churches and other churches in the area. We had a wonderful day getting to know each other and being blessed in many ways.

Worship was lead by Alina, Simona, and Lina from Birzai.

Marel Morris, A/G missionary in Latvia, was the morning speaker.

Donna James, from New Jersey, was the afternoon session teacher.

Marel taught the women how to make candle holders with a drinking glass and many wonderful supplies.

Svencioneliai

Pastor Juri and his wife, Elena, sang a song in Ukrainian. They are from Ukraine and came here as missionaries to plant a church.

The service was very international because four languages were spoken or sung...Russian, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, and English. It was a great day!

This church is filled with talented people of all ages. It is always a joy to go here and listen to all the music.

Bette Sue shared a testimony (not pictured here) and Bob preached with a the interpreter's help. It is a privilege to travel to these churches and encourage them in anyway we can.

More Latvia...

This the Bible School building in Jelgava that was started by the Assemblies of God missionaries several years ago. It is being fully run by the nationals now.

We even got in some bowling...one of our favorites! Bob and Jerry had the high scores for the day.

This is a beautiful Orthodox church in Jelgava, Latvia. As you can see, it was a very cold day!

This was the first University in Latvia and is still being used in Jelgava today. It is a beautiful building.

Latvia

The Roberts have lived in Jelgava since 1997. We have spent a lot of time together over the years and appreciate their friendship. They are going home for itineration and to teach at SAGU in Waxahachie, TX for a year.

We did a little touring this time in Latvia and got to visit the Rundales Castle Museum. It is dated back from the 17th to 19th century and very beautiful!

Here we are in the Throne Room where the only piece of furniture was the throne for the Duke. (Notice our cute blue shoe covers we got to wear!)

Beautiful rooms filled with pottery were situated throughout the museum.
