More from Klaipeda...

Here we were on the beach in Klaipeda. It was quite windy and cooler so not many people were swimming.

The "Old Town" area, which is what the original center of the city is called, has some very German-looking areas like this corner with the outdoor restaurant. Also a river runs through the city.

The "flower" ship was interesting too.

As we walked across one of the bridges, Bob noticed these locks on the railings. When we looked more closely, we saw a man and a woman's name and a date. This seems to be a tradition for wedding days or possibly special occasions to "lock your love" together forever. We wondered if they throw the key in the river so it can never be unlocked!

After returning to Vilnius, we noticed locks on a nearby bridge too. Someone recently told me that when the railings get full, someone comes along and saws off the locks so there will be room for new locks! So much for throwing away the key so no one can take your lock off the bridge. At least their love can still last forever even if the lock doesn't!

Klaipeda

We recently were able to visit the seaport city of Klaipeda. Bob preached at the Pentecostal Union church there and we got to visit with the pastor and his family. This city is on the Baltic Sea and has beaches that attract people for their summer vacations. We tend to think that in the summer our city empties on the weekends and they all go to Klaipeda to swim.

Also, we were able to have some time with one of our former Bible College students, Monika. She is from the area and now lives and works in Klaipeda.

The weekend was very enjoyable.

More Friends

The last couple weeks have been filled with times with friends. This is Dima and Lena. They got married while we were home for itineration and we got to enjoy an evening with them in our home this week. We missed the wedding but we got to see their pictures and enjoy hearing about their special day.

They brought us this lovely Water Lily. As is the custom in Lithuania and European countries, when you go to visit someone's home, you bring something for the table. Flowers and chocolates are the most common thing to bring. They blessed us with this beautiful flower!

4th of July

We had a great time of celebrating together with the Millsaps, McClungs, Wilsons and VanMeters. The day threatened rain so we went to the Bible College and had a fun time together. As you can see, the men did the grilling and the ladies did the watching. After it was all cooked, we all did the eating!!!!! Then we played games and had a very enjoyable day. We are thankful for our home country and glad we got to celebrate our holiday together.
